San Marzano "Perfect for Pots"

The variety Floriana grows, is a bush type. It does NOT need pinching out of the sideshoots, and it can be grown in a small pot (minimum 25cm diameter). You get a thick skinned fleshy roma, perfect in salads, or cut in half long ways and fried up on the barby. In fact I once grew one right next to the barby ! Because it is a bush type, there is no need to stake it. It is very popular for the 1 or 2 person household, and doesn't grow out of control. The Probus clubs I talk to love it, and so does Darren James from the radio 3AW weekend gardening show. He often mentions it as one of his faves.

San Marzano is small town in Italy, just south of Naples. It is a world famous tomato growing region, where the rich volcanic soils from nearby Mt Vesuvius, are perfect to grow tomaotes in.
