The variety Floriana
grows, is a bush type. It does NOT need pinching out of the sideshoots,
and it can be grown in a small pot (minimum 25cm diameter). You get a thick
skinned fleshy roma, perfect in salads, or cut in half long ways and fried
up on the barby. In fact I once grew one right next to the barby ! Because
it is a bush type, there is no need to stake it. It is very popular for
the 1 or 2 person household, and doesn't grow out of control. The Probus
clubs I talk to love it, and so does Darren James from the radio 3AW
weekend gardening show. He often mentions it as one of his faves. |
